ReflectionReflecting on eternal truths
In the beginning, God created. These words establish the foundation of all reality - God exists eternally and independently, and everything else exists because He willed it into being. The Hebrew "bara" (create) is used exclusively of divine activity. This is not reshaping existing matter, but calling existence from nothing. What a God we serve!

Prophetic WordThe Spirit of God was hovering over the waters
"And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Before anything else, the Spirit was present and active! This same Spirit that brought order from chaos, light from darkness, is available to you today. He still hovers over the formless places in our lives, ready to bring forth new creation. Let Him move in your situation today!

Historical ContextHistorical and archaeological context
The creation account stands in stark contrast to other Ancient Near Eastern creation myths. While Babylonian myths like Enuma Elish depict creation emerging from divine conflict and humans created as slaves, Genesis presents an orderly, purposeful creation by one sovereign God who declares humanity "very good."
